DaVinci’s original instrument “Viola Organista” Heard for First Time
Leonardo DaVinci’s claim to fame was his paintings, but in recent years more and more people have become fascinated with his fantastical concepts for inventions. In his sketches can be found plans for things that would not be invented for decades, including parachutes, machine guns, and gear for Scuba diving. They also include more wild and whimsical designs for things such as “Robotic Knights” and devices used to walk on water. One such idea was the Viola Organista, an instrument that at first glance is similar to a baby grand piano. The inside is full of small arches and string that has a very Seussical look to it. What does this new instrument sound like? Thanks to Polish concert pianist Slawomir Zubrzycki, you can hear it for yourself.
